3" Magnum Report

Its been a couple weeks since Ive reported and Im sorry for that I know
that a lot of you have been waiting breathlessly for it so here it is---
I have been fishing every body of water in Monroe county that's worth
fishing and every time it's the same old story, "Were killin em over at
Bolles Harbor, were killin em at lake erie Metro marina, were killin em here
there and everywhere" Then I follow up with these reports by travelling to
those spots to get skunked and witness 100 other people getting skunked. Ive
tried every bait and hook known to man and no luck still in fact I was on
the verge of going off on a huge rant in my report about the lack of fish in
monroe county until I went to the metro park marina Sunday afternoon to
finally pull some perch through the ice. There were about 25 people out
there and I set up camp next to 4 old guys that each had about 25 jumbos
laying next to them. I was having some good conversation with them about
nothing and thinking about how jealous I was of them being able to fish
every day and not have to work the next day, They were like the movie grumpy
old men without the grumpiness I had a lot of fun with them.
On Saturday we headed ovre to Washtenaw county to whitmore lake to try our
luck on some walleyes along with about 250 other people with no luck. We
fished from sunup till noon without a single bite and only witnessed 2 other
people within 100 yds of us. Im not sure on the second half of the day
results but for everyone elses sake I hope it picked up.
I want to leave everyone with a quote I read in woods and water by Robert
Dock Stupp. "Man, I feel energised and invigoratingly alive after a day on
the water, frozen or open.To me, water, essential to all life, is a spirit
and I must be around it. It distributes good vibes to all who are open to
it." When I read that I got chills and I know most other hardcore fishermen
will understand.
I will be out of town next week so you wont be graced with the 3" Magnum
Report so until next time men "keep your poles in the holes"

3" Magnum Report

After much thought on where to fish we ended up trying a new spot on saturday in a pond never fished by humans before near I-275 and I-75 where they meet and as it turns out there is a reason nobody fishes it, its about 7' deep and sandy bottom with no stucture at all and no fish at all. We deided on the ready rd quarry again and found some nice crappies and a couple dozen gills. Sunday afternoon I decided to go back for an hour before dark and got 5 crappies and 4 gills and lost a 14"er at the hole. The crappies were caught mostly on minnows and white fuzzy jiggs. I think I have them figgured out now and from now on I will be sporting crappie jiggs with minnows. It took me some time to figure them out since in the past there weren't enough crappie to bother fishing for but now with the proper bait and jigg I believe you could fill a bucket with nice crappies since nobody ever fishes solely for them and the population is booming. I will be back next weekend ice permitting with a couple dozen minnows and a positive attitude and untill then men keep your poles in the holes.

3" Magnum Report

The Ready Road quarry is a quarry dug out along I-275 at Ready Road and is an excellent spot to take a kid fishing on the hardwater, you will catch fish every time you go and there is easy access due to the new parking lot and walkpath around the pond. I have been fishing it for about 15 years and have always had good luck. You can expect to catch gills, crappie, perch, bass and bullhead. Hope to see some new faces this weekend and keep you pole in the hole.

3" Magnum Report

Well its ice fishing season in s/e michigan finally and action is mixed depending on where you fish.
If your after yellow perch you better bring your lunch with you because you will be out all day to catch enough for a sandwich. Some fishermen found 20-30 perch in 6 fow at lake erie metro park marina on friday but sat. And sunday there were only 20-30 perch caught total between the 150 people fishing the marina. I spent 6 hours out there and got 2 bites total not too exciting to say the least. The fish that were caught were on teardrops and minnows. I will be back on saturday morning to try again. After trying the metro park I will be heading over to the ready road quarry aka honeyhole to fill up on crappie, perch and bluegills. I fished here saturday and sunday after getting skunked at the metro park and sat. I caught 2 perch and 8 gills. Sunday afternoon I returned to experience ice fishing at its finest. I only had about an hour to fish till dark and cought 3-10" crappies and around 10 gills and twice my line got snapped by unidentified lunkers

Houghton Lake Walleye Report

Lindy Darter

While the Lindy Darters rattle chamber mimics the sounds of a distressed baitfish and attracts fish from long distances the erratic darting action closes the deal evoking walleye to strike. There is no need for added attractant in the form of minnows or waxies on this lure. It’s a incredible hard-water lure that is now one of our favorite for Houghton Lake Winter Walleyes.

These are the other colors available...

Houghton Lake Walleye Report 1/8 - 1/11

The walleye action on Houghton Lake was good over the weekend.  We made it out on Houghton three times over the weekend and caught walleyes on each trip.   We fished mainly on the North Shore in 9 FOW and out in middle of the lake in 11 FOW.  Overall we caught ten walleyes and five keepers.  Best action for us has been 11am - 3pm in 11 FOW.  Best bait has been the LINDY Darter 3/8 oz shad.  These baits rock and you don't need to tip them with live bait. They have great action and will save you from having to buy walleye minnows on each trip.
We also fished Lake 13 in Farwell this weekend and did ok on bluegills and a few nice perch in 7 FOW on the North shore.  The lake is loaded with gills, but you really have to work to find the bigger fish.    I'm fishing the Saginaw River on Wednesday after work, so I'll have a report.

Ice Fishing Update

Ice fishing action on Houghton Lake started out slower then normal this year. I've been on the lake three times so far and have only caught six walleyes. At this point I'm in walleye search mode, but I can recommend trying the East Bay in 7.5 FOW off of the break on the West side. You'll find good weeds and it's a good area to jig for walleyes. My best action has been on jigging spoons tipped with a minnow and the best action has been from 4pm till 6pm. I'll be out all day on Friday looking for Houghton Lake walleyes and should have a better report next time. Budd Lake pan fish action has been slowing down every year, but if you’re looking for a big walleye you need to try Budd Lake. I've been on Budd three times this year and haven't hooked a walleye, but I have seen some very nice fish on my camera. Budd produces big fish just check the Master Angler records if you don't believe me. In 2008 a 38.75 inch 12.25 pound walleye came out of Budd and I have personally seen two fish in the ten pound range hauled out. Bluegill and perch fishing is hit and miss with a majority of the fish being undersized. Best action on Budd has been in 15 FOW on the South end of the lake. Good Luck..
