Pratt Lake

Pratt Lake

Fished Pratt Lake on Sunday afternoon.  No walleye action but we found lots of bluegills as we searched the lake.  We found bluegill action all around the the lake.  Most of the bigger fish were in 20 to 27 FOW and from bottom suspended up to 15 foot.  Best action was on wax worm and orange tear drop.

Pratt Lake 6/13/11

Fished Pratt Lake Monday night for the first time this summer.   We started on the South East side of the lake working leaches and crank baits in 10 to 14 FOW.  The bass and bluegill action was great on the South shore.  We hooked one small 10-inch walleye on a slip bobber rig in 13 FOW and a nice pike.  Closer to dark we trolled without any luck.  The lake is in great fishing condition right now, the water is clear and the weeds down.
Good Luck...

Budd Lake & Pratt Lake Report

Pratt Lake Blue Gills

Friday was the last day of ice fishing for Mark and I, so we decided to put in a full day looking for anything that would bite.  We started out on Budd Lake at 6:00am on the South shore in 14 FOW.   We saw lots of small blue gills, bass, and several nice walleye on the camera.  The action started at 8:11am when we had our first flag (lost it) and then at 8:40am a big walleye came in and checkout my jig before swimming off. The North wind picked up at 9:00am and I was cold, so went out and I did more camera work.  I checked out the flat areas and found two big walleyes laying on the bottom half buried in silt which was a sign that the bite was going to be slow.  I had to leave the lake at 9:30am for a quick meeting with a customer which kept me off the ice until 1pm when I met back up with Mark at Pratt Lake.  We started on the West side of the lake and checked out three areas that normally hold walleyes and after an hour of looking at empty water we packed up and moved East.  On the North East shore we found two walleyes and lots of blue gills in our first set of holes, so we decided to setup and try the area.  We had fourteen flags, four missed fish, six bass, and the rest were pike.  The blue gills fishing was hot and the fish were scattered from the bottom to 3 foot under the ice in depths of 7 to 16 foot.  Total pan fish action we hooked twenty three keeper gills for our dinner.  Mark and I spent the last three hours of the day jigging for walleyes and trolling all of the open holes in search of a big walleye without any luck.  The bite finally slowed down and so did we and at seven thirty another great ice fishing season for came to a close.

Good Luck....

Weekend Fishing Report 2/3 - 2/5

Houghton Lake Sun Set

Saginaw River (2/3) Fished the river Thursday afternoon South of Hooters in 23 FOW.  We hooked nine walleyes in two hours all 12 to 14 inchers.  On my way out to my fishing area I found several areas that only had about 2-inches of ice which was a bit alarming and odd for as cold as it has been.

Houghton Lake (2/4)  The fishing was very good, but the snow drifts and slush conditions made traveling on the lake difficult.  We fished the NW side of the lake in 9 FOW from 7am - 7pm.  The best bite was on tip ups set 18-inches off the bottom with small gray minnows.  Overall we hooked eight walleyes, four keepers, two pike and lots of perch.

Pratt Lake (2/5):  Headed to Pratt Lake on Saturday and found lots of deep snow and slush.  Fished the SE side of the lake in 9 to 15 FOW and caught lots of pike and bass, but no walleyes.

Pratt Lake Fishing Reprot 1/16/11

Spent the afternoon on Pratt Lake fishing for walleyes and blue gills.  We found a big school of blue gills in 10 FOW at noon, but we couldn't make them bite on any of our setups.  The fish were not active and while I was checking holes with the camera I saw two big bass laying on the bottom in 15 FOW which in my mind was a good indicator that fishing was going to be slow.   We had seven fishermen in our group today and the total catch was one 22-inch pike, one bass, and nine blue gills.  Their was also about 40 fishermen on the ice on the East side by mid afternoon and we didn't see on tip up flag in the big groups of shanties or much action.
